United Veterinary Care offers externships for veterinary students across our network of over 100 hospital locations in more than 20 states. This clinical experience lets you apply classroom knowledge in a real-world hospital setting of your choice.

Designed for clinical-year students at AVMA-accredited schools, externships involve case discussions, teamwork, and hands-on patient care in GP, ER, and specialty settings, with stipends to offset travel and lodging costs where allowed by your school.

Qualifications

• Must be a current veterinary student at an AVMA-accredited veterinary school.
• Proof of professional liability insurance is required.
• SAVMA members qualify for no-cost insurance by applying at the provided AVMA PLIT link.

Responsibilities

• Participate in hands-on externship experiences across GP, ER and specialty settings.
• Be integrated into the team through case discussions and collaborative problem-solving.
• Under supervision, assist with patient care and clinical procedures.
• Contribute to learning goals and reflect on cases with supervising veterinarians.
