Job summary

Carvana in Tempe, AZ seeks a highly collaborative Car Vending Machine Engineer to maintain and extend the control systems of our unique car vending machines. You will work across mechanical and software domains, with opportunities to create new user experiences for employees and customers alike.

You will engage in programming, debugging, and integrating electromechanical subsystems, while coordinating with cross-functional teams and travel to machines nationwide as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience with PLC-based motion control systems like Beckhoff TwinCAT.
• Knowledge of VFD motors and SEW EuroDrive control equipment.
• Familiarity with low voltage control circuits, sensors, detectors, limit switches, I/O systems.
• Understanding of fieldbus operation like CANbus, EtherCAT, Profinet.
• Competent troubleshooting of electrical, mechanical, and process control domains.
• Interest in creating HMIs that are practical and useful.
• Ability to work with plant engineers, external vendors, operators, and management to manage projects.
• Knowledge of development using Python and JavaScript is a plus.
• Ability to wear many hats with multiple systems.
• Some travel across the country.

Responsibilities

• Work on state-of-the-art car vending machines and extend their programming.
• Develop web and mobile apps to improve user experiences for employees and customers.
• Support other teams in troubleshooting electromechanical systems.
• Other duties as assigned.
