Job summary

The Iowa Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Investigation and Identity Protection seeks an Investigator to join our team. You will perform field inspections and investigations into vehicle registration/title fraud, dealer licensing, and identity theft, including odometer fraud and stolen vehicles.

Location-based requirements include residing in Webster, Wright, Carroll, or Greene County. Expect a Monday–Friday schedule with some overnight travel and a salary range of $34.90–$52.73 per

Qualifications

• Must be a certified Iowa peace officer (ILEA).
• Must maintain certification as salvage vehicle theft examiner.
• Must obtain and maintain NCIC access certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform field inspections and investigative work related to vehicle registration and title fraud.
• Investigate vehicle dealer licensing compliance and theft examinations on salvage vehicles.
• Investigate driver’s license fraud and related identity theft cases.
• Conduct investigations into odometer fraud and fee for new registration fraud.
• Coordinate with county attorney for charges when warranted.
• Provide training and support to local law enforcement on identity theft detection.
