Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Packaging Engineer for Vehicle Programs in Warren, MI. The role focuses on developing and validating specialized containers for shipping components to assembly plants, translating inputs from stakeholders into robust packaging solutions that protect quality and optimize container density.

You will lead container concepts, create validation protocols, and collaborate across logistics, manufacturing, and engineering to minimize costs and improve performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Packaging, Industrial Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
• 2+ years of work experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with packaging design using 3D modeling and design software across multiple manufacturing processes and materials.
• Working knowledge of material handling and manufacturing processes in automotive or similar production environments.
• Excellent verbal and written communication to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• High level of analytical ability to solve complex packaging and logistics problems.
• Strong interpersonal skills to work with engineers, plant personnel, and supply chain partners.
• Proficiency with PC applications and general office software.
• Hands-on problem-solving ability with testing and validation.
• Self-motivation and initiative to drive tasks to completion.
• Solid project management and organizational skills for multiple container designs.

Responsibilities

• Develop robust packaging solutions for stakeholders across supply chain, logistics, and manufacturing.
• Design and manage multiple container concepts to meet program milestones.
• Create validation protocols for loading, transportation, and unloading procedures.
• Ensure high first-time quality for packaging designs and drive cost efficiency.
• Prioritize workload across programs and meet KPIs and deadlines.
• Lead cross-functional discussions on container constraints and cost control.
• Collaborate with logistics, manufacturing, engineering, and supply chain teams.
• Apply 3D modeling and CAD tools to packaging designs and documentation.
• Integrate packaging solutions into plant operations and lineside staging.
• Identify waste and drive lean improvements in logistics and material handling.
• Develop cost/benefit analyses and business cases for container solutions.
• Use root cause analysis methods like Red X to resolve issues.
• Support automotive launch activities with packaging readiness for start-ups.
• Align with lean manufacturing and quality systems in packaging solutions.
• Participate in training and development on packaging and containerization.
• Travel within Southeast Michigan and North America as needed.
