The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Transportation in Luzerne County seeks an Automotive Mechanic to perform repairs and maintenance on cars, trucks, tractors, construction equipment and powered tools, supporting safe and reliable travel.

The role focuses on preventive maintenance, state inspections, diesel servicing, and field work; you will work full-time, with shifts 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and no telework. A valid driver's license and necessary certifications are required.

Qualifications

  • Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or completion of an approved apprenticeship; or any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license is required; Class 1 Inspection Mechanic certificate or equivalent that allows inspection for Class 1 vehicles.
  • Possession of a CFC-12 Refrigerant Recycling Certificate and a 134A Refrigerant Recycling Certificate, obtainable after hire.

Responsibilities

  • Equipment repair on cars, trucks, tractors, construction equipment, and powered hand tools.
  • Preventive maintenance including oil changes, diagnostics, tune-ups, tire changes, and system adjustments on gasoline and diesel equipment.
  • State inspections: official safety and emissions inspections and complete required documentation.
  • Diesel servicing: replacing filters, pumps, gaskets, and related components on diesel equipment.
  • Field work: emergency road service and maintenance at county stockpiles as needed.
  • Safety practices: maintain a safe work area and report injuries or hazards promptly.
