Job summary

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is seeking a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic at the Montgomery County Maintenance Organization to keep essential equipment in reliable condition for safe travel. You will diagnose, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on diesel and construction equipment, and assist with major repairs as needed.

Requirements include an active Class A or B CDL, Tank Vehicle Endorsement, and Pennsylvania Inspection Mechanic Certification.

Qualifications

• Completion of the Commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program, or
• Two years journey-level mechanic experience with diesel vehicle repair experience.
• Equivalent combination of experience and training accepted.

Responsibilities

• Repair and overhaul diesel trucks, cars, tractors, sweepers, mixers, and loaders.
• Perform diagnostics, tune-ups, and repairs on cooling, electrical, and suspension systems.
• Conduct safety and emissions inspections and maintain required paperwork.
• Identify issues, determine parts and tools needed, and assist with major repairs.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area and use proper PPE.
• Make routine field adjustments and support other mechanics.
