Job summary

Rivian is seeking a Spring Co-Op intern in Irvine, CA, available Jan–Aug 2027. You will join the Homologation team to architect workflows, maintain the requirements database, and support regulatory documentation for Rivian vehicle platforms.

Applicants must be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student with an expected graduation between Dec 2027 and 2029. No visa sponsorship is offered. This internship requires onsite work for the full term.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a master's degree in mechanical, automotive, aerospace engineering, or a related field from an accredited university.
  • Strong grasp of engineering fundamentals and first-principles problem solving.
  • Experience interpreting and applying technical rulesets or standards - FSAE/Baja design rules, code compliance, or prior regulatory/legislation exposure.
  • Comfortable with structured data and requirements tooling (Excel, Jama/Flow/Polarion/DOORS, or similar); interest in process automation is a plus.
  • Self-starter, curious, and effective at written and verbal communication across engineering teams in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Research and identify global regulatory requirements applicable to Rivian vehicle platforms; maintain and improve the requirements database.
  • Design and document workflows for tracking requirements from identification through certification evidence.
  • Support preparation and review of vehicle and component certification documentation.
  • Partner with engineering teams to gather technical data and help translate regulatory language into engineering requirements.
  • Support planning of homologation testing across different subject areas (vehicle safety, HV systems, fuel economy, EMC).
  • Support homologation impact analysis for software OTA updates.
  • Identify and implement tool and process improvements to reduce manual effort in requirements management.
