Job summary

North Carolina Central University Transportation & Parking is seeking a Vehicle Equipment Operator Pool. You will drive campus routes, including over-the-road buses and shuttles, and support events across NCCU locations in Durham.

You are expected to complete vehicle inspections, assist passengers, and maintain accurate expense and mileage records while upholding a professional demeanor. The position is part-time, temporary through 06/30/2027, with varied hours.

Qualifications

• Two years driving experience required.
• Valid North Carolina driver’s license or ability to obtain.
• DOT medical card or ability to obtain and maintain.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.

Responsibilities

• Drive NCCU routes including buses, shuttles, vans, and utility vehicles.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Assist passengers, including mobility-impaired individuals, with boarding.
• Maintain expense and mileage records and respond to student, faculty, and staff questions.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Two years driving experience. Valid North Carolina drivers license. DOT medical card or the ability to obtain and maintain valid DOT medical card. Ability to read, write, and communicate in English, read maps, and maintain expense and mileage records. Complete vehicle pre-trip and post-trip inspection reports. Complete incident reports when necessary. Load and unload luggage/equipment and assist with passenger boarding. Maintain professional manner, appearance and positive attitude possessing good organizational skills and time management skills.

Position Overview

Primary Purpose of Position

As a driver at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) Transportation & Parking, you will be driving multiple routes based on student demand within the NCCU network. Drivers will be required to drive over the road buses, shuttles, vans, and utility vehicles for various events and activities. Vehicle Equipment Operators will gain an understanding of the entire campus and the local area to answer student, faculty & staff questions. It is also the responsibility of the driver to conduct vehicle inspections and ensure the safety of our students, faculty & staff, promote positive passenger relations by acting in considerate, courteous manner. Attend training and have the ability to satisfactorily complete training courses. Drivers will use various equipment requiring a moderate degree of dexterity and assist customers regularly with mobility impairments including but not limited to pushing wheelchairs, lifting light or heavy objects.
