Job summary

North Carolina Central University (NCCU) Transportation & Parking is seeking a Vehicle Equipment Operator Pool on a part-time basis (30 hours/week) with a temporary appointment likely renewable. Drivers will cover multiple campus routes and gain knowledge of campus and surrounding areas.

The position requires a valid NC driver’s license and two years of driving experience, the ability to read maps and maintain logs, and the DOT medical card or ability to obtain one. Training is provided.

Ability to read, write and communicate in English; read maps and maintain records.
DOT medical card or ability to obtain and maintain one.

Responsibilities

Drive over the road buses, shuttles, vans, and utility vehicles on campus routes.
Conduct vehicle inspections and ensure safety for students, faculty, staff.
Assist passengers, including mobility-impaired riders, and support with loading/unloading as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Two years driving experience. Valid North Carolina drivers license. DOT medical card or the ability to obtain and maintain valid DOT medical card. Ability to read, write, and communicate in English, read maps, and maintain expense and mileage records. Complete vehicle pre-trip and post-trip inspection reports. Complete incident reports when necessary. Load and unload luggage/equipment and assist with passenger boarding. Maintain professional manner, appearance and positive attitude possessing good organizational skills and time management skills.
Department Hiring Range: $17.00 - $23.00

Position Overview

Primary Purpose of Position: As a driver at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) Transportation & Parking, you will be driving multiple routes based on student demand within the NCCU network. Drivers will be required to drive over the road buses, shuttles, vans, and utility vehicles for various events and activities. Vehicle Equipment Operators will gain an understanding of the entire campus and the local area to answer student, faculty & staff questions. It is also the responsibility of the driver to conduct vehicle inspections and ensure the safety of our students, faculty & staff, promote positive passenger relations by acting in considerate, courteous manner. Attend training and have the ability to satisfactorily complete training courses. Drivers will use various equipment requiring a moderate degree of dexterity and assist customers regularly with mobility impairments including but not limited to pushing wheelchairs, lifting light or heavy objects.
