Job summary

Solano County is seeking an Equipment Service Worker (Extra-Help) to perform maintenance and minor repairs on county vehicles in the shop and in the field. Tasks include fueling, tire service, preventive maintenance, lighting and brake inspections, battery work, and assisting mechanics with major repairs.

The role requires a high school diploma and two years of vehicle maintenance experience, with a California Class C license by hire date.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent; AND two years of full-time paid experience servicing and maintaining vehicles.
• Completion of accredited vocational courses in automotive technology may substitute for up to six months of the required experience.
• A valid California Driver's License, Class C, by date of hire.

Responsibilities

• Fueling vehicles and checking fluid levels.
• Checking tires and mounting, balancing, rotating, and repairing tires.
• Performing preventive maintenance: oil changes, filter replacement, lubrication.
• Inspecting lighting systems and repairing headlights and warning lights.
• Inspecting brakes, steering, and suspension; report major issues to a mechanic/supervisor.
• Testing, servicing, recharging and changing batteries.
• Checking belts and hoses; replace as needed.
• Spotting minor and major problems and reporting for repair.
• Washing and/or steam cleaning vehicles (interior and exterior).
• Assisting Equipment Mechanics with major mechanical and electrical repairs.
• Maintaining repair records and shuttling vehicles to outside vendors for service.
