Job summary

The City of Garland is seeking an IT Communications Installation Technician I to install, maintain, and repair electronic systems in city vehicles, including warning lights, GPS, radios, cameras, and inverters. You will follow ITIL processes, procure parts, and ensure reliable operation of 12-volt electronic equipment.

Required qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, 6 months related experience, and EVT certification or ability to obtain within 6 months.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 6 months related experience in field.
• EVT certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
• Basic DC circuit fundamentals theory and installation or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair specific electronic and specialty devices in City vehicles.
• Repair or resolve problems with electronic equipment resulting from diagnostic tests.
• Modify or fabricate metal used in the installation process.
• Monitor problem resolution and ensure timely completion following the ITIL process.
• Procure parts to repair electronic equipment and maintain records.
• Communicate with City of Garland employees, contractors, vendors, and other public safety personnel.
• Organize shop supplies and tools and maintain the upkeep of the shop.
