Summary

Performs work in the operation of a vehicle to ensure safe transportation of passengers to and from various destinations. Additional responsibilities include maintaining various records such as time at each stop, the purpose of the trip, the number of passengers per day, mileage, and vehicle maintenance. This is a Part-Time; On-Call position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Drive CBU vehicles of class C status to transport passengers over scheduled routes to and from CBU in a safe and timely manner.
  • Maintain various records: driving time, purpose of the trip, mileage, and vehicle maintenance.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with traffic and highway safety rules and regulations.
  • Clean the vehicle as scheduled and/or required.
  • Ensure the vehicle is safely and securely stored.
  • Assess incidents, complaints, accidents and/or potential emergency situations (e.g. road hazards, medical emergencies, accidents, etc.) to resolve and or recommend a resolution to the situation.
  • Assist students and other passengers in providing safe loading and unloading from vehicles during regular transport and emergency situations.
  • Fuel assigned vehicle (e.g. oil, water, fuel, etc.) to maintain the vehicle in a safe operating condition.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections (e.g. fluid levels, tire pressure, exterior condition, etc.) to ensure the safe operating condition of the vehicle and comply with mandated guidelines.
  • Report defects or maintenance problems with the vehicle to the supervisor.
  • Establish and ensure a safe environment for students or other passengers.
  • Understand and agree to abide by the mission of CBU.
  • Possess a valid California Class "C" driver’s license.

  • Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Education and Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
