Job summary

Rivian in Palo Alto, CA is seeking a Vehicle Development Engineer II to own and execute projects across the System Design and System Testing layers of the V-model for EV product development.

You will evaluate prototype vehicle functionality on public roads and in controlled environments, translate observations into problem statements, document defects, and support cross-functional validation with the internal fleet; travel up to 10% is expected.

Qualifications

• Strong grasp of engineering fundamentals and ADAS system knowledge.
• Experience with CAN and automotive analysis tools such as Vector CANalyzer, Vehicle Spy, PCAN-Explorer.
• Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics, and interact with CAD software.
• Familiarity with Systems Integration: EV fundamentals, ECU network architecture, and device network protocols.
• Experience driving prototype vehicles.
• Bonus: Atlassian (JIRA/Confluence), GIT, Python/C, Unix/Linux, ECU Calibration (Vector CANape, INCA).
• Bachelor’s Degree in engineering and 2+ years in automotive industry or 5+ years total engineering experience.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate prototype vehicle functionality on public roads and closed courses.
• Transform observations into problem statements and drive investigations.
• Document defects and advocate fast containment and resolution.
• Deep dive vehicle-level issues in early-development vehicles with unclear source.
• Perform vehicle software testing and domain software deployment for validation.
• Travel up to 10% and support remote site testing as needed.
