Job summary

Rivian is seeking a Staff Development Engineer to lead hands-on prototype vehicle development, commissioning, and debug across vehicle software, instrumentation and test assets. You’ll build and ready test systems for field and track use, including ADAS assets and OTA updates.

You will diagnose vehicle-level issues, create instrumentation, and support cross-functional teams, with up to 50% travel to remote events and proving grounds.

Qualifications

• Hands-on engineering across vehicle systems, electrical integration, prototype hardware and software development.
• Experience commissioning, debugging, and supporting prototype or early-development vehicles.
• Knowledge of low-voltage systems and controller/network integration.
• Familiarity with Jira/Confluence for documenting work.

Responsibilities

• End to end ownership of prototype vehicle commissioning and activation of assets.
• Diagnose and resolve vehicle-level software, electrical, and integration issues on development vehicles.
• Develop and apply AI-assisted analysis tools for validation routine optimization.
• Execute and support development testing in dynamic, environmental, and off-road conditions.
• Collect and interpret development data to turn observations into actionable steps.
• Prepare instrumentation and support assets for track and proving-ground testing.
• Provide practical technical support to peers and partner teams.
• Travel up to 50% to support prototype vehicles and remote test events.
