Job summary

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is seeking an experienced epidemiologist/data analyst to advance Lyme disease surveillance within the Zoonotic and Vector-Borne Disease Unit. You will work under the Research Scientist, analyzing data, guiding case investigations, and collaborating with multiple partners to improve public health outcomes.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in a relevant field is required for Assignment Level I.
• Doctorate or equivalent experience is required for higher levels as specified in the lead note.
• Candidates should have formal training in epidemiology and public health surveillance.

Responsibilities

• Develop and enhance surveillance practices for tick-borne diseases.
• Conduct case investigations and routine Lyme disease surveillance.
• Manage, summarize and report surveillance data.
• Perform data quality assurance and data management tasks.
• Review literature to inform disease understanding and surveillance methods.
• Collaborate with Environmental Health, Public Health Laboratory, and partners.
• Engage in fieldwork including tick collection when needed.
• Participate in outbreak investigations and supervise interns.
• Lead outreach to medical and veterinary communities.
