Job summary

CFD Research Corporation seeks a VDI Systems Engineer to design, deploy, and secure a multi-cloud VDI and thin-client environment for high-performance and developer sandbox use cases. The role requires hands-on VDI platform administration, security compliance, and scripting to automate operations.

Based in Dayton, OH with 100% on-site work, the engineer will partner with ISSOs and cross-functional teams to optimize templates, costs, and performance while contributing to CONOPS and technical

Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI clearance and U.S. citizenship required.
• 100% on-site work requirement.
• CompTIA Security+ (DoD 8570 / 8140 IAT Level II baseline) or equivalent.
• Hands-on experience administering at least one core VDI platform (AVD, AWS WorkSpaces, or VMware/Omnissa Horizon) and thin-client management tools (e.g., 10ZiG Manager).
• Experience applying DISA STIGs and writing automation scripts (PowerShell, Bash, or Python).
• Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Administer and secure VDI environments (AVD, WorkSpaces, Horizon) and thin clients.
• Manage on-site endpoint infrastructure and profile storage.
• Collaborate with ISSOs to implement DISA STIGs across templates and cloud resources.
• Document CONOPS, SOPs, and provide technical whitepapers.
• Serve as Tier-3 escalation for Ops and align templates with R&D pipelines.

CFD Research is seeking VDI Systems Engineers to design, deploy, maintain, and secure a multi-cloud Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and thin-client endpoint environment across specialized operational, high-performance, and developer sandbox environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Endpoint & VDI Management: Administer AWS-hosted 10ZiG Manager servers, push endpoint profiles (PeakOS, RepurpOS, NOS), handle firmware updates, and convert legacy hardware into thin clients.
• Platform Engineering: Provision, optimize, and maintain Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), AWS WorkSpaces, and Omnissa/VMware Horizon environments, including FSLogix profiles, instant clones, and host pools.
• Testing & Feedback: Conduct performance testing, collect logon/latency metrics, and iterate desktop templates based on structured user feedback.
• Security & Compliance: Partner with ISSOs to apply DISA STIGs across OS templates, AD policies, and cloud resources. Gather technical evidence to support CTO/ATO packages.
• Documentation & Advisory: Author CONOPS, SOPs for Tier 1/2 support, technical whitepapers, and cloud cost optimization recommendations.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as Tier-3 escalation support for the Operations Office and collaborate with the Integration Office to align templates with R&D pipelines.

Mandatory Requirements

• Clearance: Active Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance.
• Work Arrangement: 100% On-Site work requirement.
• Certification: CompTIA Security+ (DoD 8570 / 8140 IAT Level II baseline) or equivalent.
• Technical Experience: Hands-on experience administering at least one core VDI platform (AVD, AWS WorkSpaces, or VMware/Omnissa Horizon) and thin-client management tools (e.g., 10ZiG Manager).
• Security & Scripting: Demonstrated proficiency applying DISA STIGs and writing automation scripts (PowerShell, Bash, or Python).
• Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship required

Desired Qualifications

• Platform Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Azure Virtual Desktop Specialty, AWS Certified Solutions Architect/SysOps Administrator, or VMware/Omnissa VCP-DTM.
• Technical Writing: Track record of producing technical design blueprints, SOPs, and system architecture whitepapers.

This role is based in the Dayton, OH area** , **and is 100% onsite.
