Job Summary and Qualifications
The Vascular Sonographer performs non‑invasive and invasive vascular procedures, including carotid, venous, renal, and arterial doppler, venous ablation, and sclerotherapy. The role works closely with the healthcare team to ensure high‑quality patient care and efficient completion of diagnostic studies while maintaining a clean, safe, and customer‑service‑focused environment.
Responsibilities of the Vascular Technologist
- Communicate openly and professionally with physicians, patients, guests, and team members.
- Make decisions of moderate difficulty with good judgment.
- Handle confidential patient information.
- Maintain effective working knowledge of all radiology equipment.
- Participate in budget control.
- Work extended hours including evenings and weekends as needed.
- Perform 2‑dimensional, color‑flow, and spectral Doppler exams per protocol.
- Notify physicians of any positive findings that require attention prior to patient release.
- Provide preliminary measurements and interpretations of examinations.
- Perform equipment checks, QC procedures, and report malfunctions; maintain supplies.
- Assist with patient scheduling and optimize examination availability.
- Review and revise lab protocol for efficiency; recommend changes to supervisor.
- Attend required staff meetings and correlated conferences.
- Review performance and ensure compliance with accreditation, legal, and regulatory requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
- Associate degree.
- Completion of an approved ultrasound technology education program or ARDMS‑recommended work experience.
Licenses & Certifications (required):
- One year of vascular tech experience in an acute‑care setting.
- Registered Sonographer (RDMS) by ARDMS or CCI registry in vascular ultrasound (RVS).
- Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) within 6 months of hire.
- BLS certification per St. David’s HealthCare policy.
Preferred:
- One year of experience performing adult vascular exams.
- Registered Technologist with ARRT, post‑primary certification in sonography; Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist with the Texas Department of State Health Services.
