The ideal candidate will have prior coaching experience at the high school level, strong leadership and communication skills, and CPR/AED/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain

Varsity Cheerleading Head Coach

Location: Sutton High School

Position Overview

The Sutton Athletic Department is seeking a dynamic, knowledgeable, and dedicated Varsity Cheerleading Head Coach to lead and build upon our athletic program. The ideal candidate is committed to fostering athletic excellence, teaching technical skills, and promoting a positive, inclusive team culture. The Head Coach oversees team development and collaborates with players, parents, and administration to ensure a successful experience for all stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Program Development: Develop and implement training programs to improve team performance, individual skills, and overall fitness.
• Team Management: Lead all aspects of the Varsity team, including practices, games, and team‑related events.
• Player Instruction: Coach athletes in the fundamentals of the sport, strategy, and sportsmanship while encouraging teamwork and character development.
• Organization: Facilitate pre‑season conditioning, practices, and team‑building activities.
• Communication: Maintain effective communication with athletes, parents, and school staff regarding schedules, expectations, and progress.
• Logistics & Supervision: Manage game‑day logistics, including preparation and athlete supervision.
• Academic Oversight: Monitor the academic progress of athletes to ensure a healthy balance between athletics and academics.
• Facility/Equipment Care: Work with the athletic department to maintain equipment and relevant athletic facilities.
• Policy Compliance: Uphold and enforce all school, district, and league policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Experience: Prior coaching experience in the specific sport, preferably at the high school level (Head Coaching experience is preferred).
• Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of sport‑specific techniques, strategies, and rules.
• Soft Skills: Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
• Mentorship: Proven ability to inspire and motivate athletes to achieve their potential both on and off the field.
• Certifications: CPR/AED/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain it prior to the season start).
