Reports To: Athletic Director and Building Principal
Season: Fall Sports Season
Stipend: $1500
Position Summary
The Varsity Cheer Coach is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the high school varsity Cheer program. The coach will foster student‑athlete development through skill instruction, sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and character education while maintaining compliance with all school, district, league, and MIAA regulations. The Varsity Cheer Coach is expected to serve as a positive role model who promotes educational athletics, sportsmanship, teamwork, and student success while developing a competitive and inclusive Cheer program that reflects the values of the school district.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Coaching Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct effective practices focused on skill development, conditioning, strategy, and teamwork.
- Teach Cheer fundamentals, advanced techniques, and strategies.
- Prepare the team for performances and competition.
- Supervise student‑athletes during practices, competitions, travel, and team activities.
- Assure student athlete safety through the use of all safety devices (pads, mats, spotters etc.)
- Develop and implement a comprehensive Cheer program aligned with district athletic goals.
- Establish and communicate team expectations, standards, and rules.
- Promote positive sportsmanship and ethical conduct among student‑athletes.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive team culture.
- Student‑Athlete Development
- Encourage academic achievement and monitor student eligibility requirements.
- Promote leadership, responsibility, and personal growth among student‑athletes.
- Support the physical and emotional well-being of all participants.
- Communicate regularly with athletes regarding expectations and performance.
- Program Administration
- Maintain accurate records, including rosters, attendance, equipment inventories, and injury reports.
- Ensure proper care, storage, and accountability of athletic equipment and uniforms.
- Communication and Community Relations
- Maintain positive communication with parents, athletes, school staff, officials, and community members.
- Use of Arbiter Registration/FamilyID to communicate with families.
- Represent the school and athletic program in a professional manner.
- Attend all pre-season and postseason meetings.
- Safety and Compliance
- Ensure adherence to all school district policies and procedures.
- Maintain current certifications required- NFHS Concussion Course (annually) and First/Aid CPR Certification, MIAA Coaches ED.
- Monitor athlete safety and respond appropriately to injuries and emergencies.
Qualifications
- Previous Cheer coaching and/or Cheer experience preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Cheer skills, strategies, and rules.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with student‑athletes, families, staff, and community members.
- Successful completion of all district hiring requirements, including background checks.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification, NFHS Concussion Course, MIAA Coaches ED
Terms of Employment
Appointment is for a one-year coaching contract.
Continued employment is contingent upon satisfactory performance, program needs, and reappointment procedures established by the district.
