Fall Cheerleading Head Coach

Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A one‑time certification by NFHS prior to year 3 of employment, including:
    • Fundamentals in Coaching
    • Sports First Aid
    • Sports‑specific technical and tactical skills
    • An annual concussion education certification prior to the start of the season by NFHS or another Massachusetts department of public health‑recognized education program.
  • A working knowledge of the overall operation of an interscholastic athletic program.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Other qualifications as determined appropriate by the Superintendent.

REPORTS TO: The Director of Athletics

SUPERVISES: Assistant Coaches, Team Members

JOB GOALS:

  • Support the school's academic progress.
  • Strive for program excellence and competitive teams.
  • Instill the desire to excel through preparation and hard work.
  • Produce a program that is a positive image for the community.
  • Encourage broad participation among the student body, faculty, staff, and community.
  • Help develop student‑athletes into responsible citizens.
  • Operate in a fiscally responsible way.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adhere to and communicate district, school, and MIAA philosophies and policies as outlined in the employee, student, and athletic handbooks.
  • Possess and demonstrate an understanding of the inner workings of the sport being coached.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional and ethical manner at all times.
  • Attend all team‑related activities such as practice, games, award banquets, and pep rallies.
  • Set up and attend all pre‑season and post‑season team meetings.
  • Attend all pre‑season and post‑season league meetings.
  • Distribute, collect, and submit all athletic and medical permission cards to the trainer.
  • Distribute, care for, and collect all team uniforms and equipment.
  • Complete end‑of‑year reports.
  • Regularly inspect practice and game facilities and report needs or recommendations.
  • Be present and visible in locker‑room areas before and after practices and games.
  • Monitor and encourage the educational and behavioral progress of student athletes.
  • Encourage and support athletes who participate in other sports.
  • Report all injuries to the Athletic Trainer.
  • Report issues to the Athletic Director in an timely manner.
  • Report game results to appropriate local media.
  • Travel to and from scheduled athletic events using transportation provided by the district, unless prior arrangements are approved by the Athletic Director.
  • Ensure all team members travel using district transportation unless prior arrangements are approved.
  • Supervise the loading and unloading of athletes and equipment onto or from buses for away contests and/or practices.
  • Help supervise the loading of daily late buses.
  • Ensure every athlete is on the late bus or safely home before leaving campus.
  • Help evaluate assistant coaches.

Other Duties:

  • Perform such other related duties as may be assigned.

EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the district committee’s personnel evaluation policy.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Coaching positions are one‑year appointments.

Salary: $3,623 to $5,693 stipend
