Job Description
Position Title: Junior Varsity Volleyball Coach
Reports To: Athletic Director and Building Principal
Season: Fall Sports Season
Stipend: 1728


Position Summary
The Junior Varsity Volleyball Coach is responsible for developing student-athletes by teaching the fundamental and intermediate skills of volleyball while preparing players for advancement to the varsity program. The coach will foster teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership, and personal growth in a positive, safe, and inclusive environment. The Junior Varsity Coach works collaboratively with the Varsity Coach to ensure consistency in program philosophy, expectations, and player development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Player Development
Teach and reinforce volleyball fundamentals, individual skills, team concepts, and game strategies.
Plan and conduct organized, age-appropriate practices that emphasize skill development and player improvement.
Prepare student-athletes for progression to the varsity level through consistent instruction and evaluation.
Encourage growth in leadership, confidence, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Coaching Responsibilities
Supervise and instruct student-athletes during practices, competitions, travel, and team activities.
Develop game plans and make instructional in-game adjustments that promote player development.
Evaluate athlete performance and provide constructive feedback.
Promote a positive team culture that values effort, accountability, and respect.
Collaboration
Work closely with the Varsity Volleyball Coach to implement a unified program philosophy and consistent expectations.
Support the overall volleyball program by assisting with program-wide initiatives when appropriate.
Communicate regularly with the Athletic Director regarding team progress, concerns, and program needs.
Student-Athlete Support
Encourage academic achievement and monitor eligibility requirements.
Foster positive relationships with student-athletes and serve as a mentor and role model.
Promote good sportsmanship and respectful behavior toward teammates, opponents, officials, and spectators.
Support the physical and emotional well-being of student-athletes.
Program Administration
Maintain accurate team records, attendance, equipment inventories, and other required documentation.
Ensure proper care and accountability of uniforms and equipment.
Complete all required reports and paperwork in a timely manner.
Communication and Community Relations
Maintain professional and positive communication using Arbiter Registration/Family ID with parents, athletes, school staff, officials, and community members.
Represent the school and athletic department in a positive and professional manner.
Safety and Compliance
Follow all school district policies and procedures.
Comply with MIAA Rules and Guidelines along with PVIAC Rules and Guidelines
Maintain current CPR, First Aid, concussion training annually.
Prioritize the safety and well-being of student-athletes at all times.
Report health and safety concerns to Athletic Director.

Qualifications
Previous volleyball coaching and/or playing experience preferred.
Knowledge of volleyball fundamentals, techniques, rules, and strategies.
Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to positively motivate and develop high school student-athletes.
Successful completion of all district hiring requirements, including background checks.
Current CPR/First Aid certification

Physical Requirements
Ability to stand for extended periods during practices and competitions.
Ability to demonstrate volleyball techniques and drills.
Ability to lift, carry, and move athletic equipment as needed.
Ability to travel with the team to away contests.
Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated annually by the Athletic Director and/or Principal in accordance with district policies and established coaching expectations.
Terms of Employment
Appointment is for a one-year coaching contract.
Continued employment is contingent upon satisfactory performance, program needs, and reappointment procedures established by the district.
