Job Summary

This is a variable employee position (part‑time, non‑benefit) for a Specialized Group Fitness Instructor in the City of Lakewood. The instructor must be certified in one or more of the following specialty fitness formats: all LesMills formats, Yoga, Pilates, Pilates Reformer, Zumba, Indoor Cycle/Spinning, TRX, Tai Chi, Qigong, and Barre. The instructor will receive general supervision from the Fitness Specialist and will support a variety of duties including teaching classes, enforcing policies, maintaining safety, and keeping equipment clean.

Responsibilities

• Instruct one or more specialty fitness classes for various participant levels.
• For LesMills and Zumba, teach pre‑choreographed programs without adding personal exercises.
• Educate participants on proper and safe exercise form.
• Enforce group fitness policies and procedures.
• Execute the risk management plan.
• Maintain specialty fitness certification.
• Keep equipment and storage areas clean.
• Encourage participation in other City of Lakewood fitness programs.

Required Certifications

• Nationally recognized and accredited certification pertinent to the selected class format.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 6 months teaching experience with diverse populations.
• Experience working with a wide array of populations and/or conditions.
• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to communicate, make sound decisions, and maintain organization.
• Proficiency in computer applications including Microsoft Word and a time‑entry system.
• Ability to work in large group presentations and recognize deficiencies for necessary modifications.
• Proficient in teaching to the beat of music (32‑count).
• Willingness to encourage participation in additional fitness programs offered by the City.
