Job summary

The City of Lakewood is hiring a part-time Recreation Center Front Desk Clerk to support front desk operations, registrations and customer service in a seasonal capacity.

The role requires friendly, reliable service, cash handling, basic office tech (Outlook, Word, Excel), and the ability to work evenings, weekends and select holidays. CPR/First Aid certifications or ability to obtain within three months are required.

Job Summary

Working in a variable capacity, the Recreation Center Front Desk Clerk is responsible for assisting in front desk operations and activity registrations. As a forward-facing position, this position has a strong emphasis on customer service and communication. The City of Lakewood is currently recruiting variable employees for this position. A variable employee is an at-will employee who works in a seasonal or temporary capacity. Their work schedule is based on business need. This position would be a part-time non benefitted position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Incumbent is accountable for all duties of this job and other projects and responsibilities may be added at the City’s discretion. Employees must be able to perform the essential duties of this job with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Greets visitors to the indoor/outdoor facility and assists patrons as necessary.
  • Answers the telephone, directs calls, provides information, and records messages as needed.
  • Provides information on classes and programs offered by our Department; keeps informed of the many changes and modifications of our program offerings and schedules.
  • Inputs patrons’ membership and registration information into the recreation software.
  • Responsible for cash handling and processing payments; compiles a daily cash report worksheet and prepares bank deposit slips as required by shift.
  • Assists in checking and restocking consumable and cleaning supplies.
  • Enforces facility rules and policies as necessary.
  • Keeps up-to-date on staff communications and required trainings.
  • Assists in assigned shift duties such as cleaning fitness equipment, setup and cleanup for rental groups, maintaining an organized work station, and conducting building walkthroughs.
  • Stays informed of emergency procedures and assists in implementation.
  • Upholds Division mission statement and core values in every aspect of work.
  • Requires regular and prompt attendance; May seasonally work as an outdoor pool cashier.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Reporting Relationships

Supervision Received: Receives direct supervision from the Recreation Coordinator-Facilities and supplementary direction from the Recreation Specialist-Facilities and the Assistant Facility Specialist.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to deal effectively with participants and the public in a positive way and provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours, evenings, weekends, and select holidays.
  • Ability to work with constant interruptions.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as a team member.
  • Ability to work with diverse age groups and populations.
  • Background check required.
  • Technological Skills: Experience with recreation software programs preferred.
  • Ability to operate Microsoft Office Suite to include, Outlook, Word and Excel.
Education and Experience
  • Education: Some high school.
  • Experience: Experience working with the public or in a customer service capacity preferred.
Certification/Licenses/Specialized Training

Current CPR and First Aid certifications, or the ability to obtain within three months of hire.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Must successfully complete and maintain required state or departmental physical standards and certifications.

  • LIGHT WORK: Exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
  • Physical Demands: Bend or position self to move items from higher place to lower place or vice versa, Sit, stand or be stationary, Talk, hear, converse, communicate, or exchange information, Use of hands and/or fingers in a repetitive motion to handle, pinch, grasp, move, feel, inspect, etc., Walk, ascend, descend on both even and uneven terrain, Vision to include distance, depth perception, peripheral and color.
  • Environmental Conditions may include Office settings, Physical Requirements – No Physical Needed, Lift, carry, push, pull, move, or positions from all levels up to 30 lbs with or without assistance.

Pay Range $15.16-$27.03. Background and reference checks will be conducted for all regular and some variable/seasonal positions.
