Job summary

Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Indiana is seeking a Van Driver to safely transport Club members and staff to and from designated Club locations and field trips. You will prioritize safety, perform pre-trip inspections, and supervise youth during transit.

The role requires age 18+, a valid Indiana driver’s license, and the ability to pass background checks and a drug screen. You’ll join a team dedicated to keeping kids safe and engaged in positive activities.

Qualifications

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Indiana driver’s license.
  • Pass background check and 10-panel drug screen.
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe transportation of Club members and staff to and from designated locations.
  • Ensure passengers are seated and belted; supervise members during transit.
  • Perform pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and report issues.
  • Maintain safe driving practices and comply with applicable laws and Club safety rules.
  • Keep Club equipment secure during transport and help with light vehicle maintenance as needed.

Job Purpose:

Help us get kids to a brighter tomorrow and make a positive impact in our community! The purpose of the Van Driver is to provide safe transportation of Club members and staff to and from designated Club locations of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Indiana (BGCNI)(Club) and sponsored field trips.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Includes but not limited to the following:

Member Safety:
  • 1. Ensure that members know what to do in case of an emergency (fire, severe weather, violence, contamination, etc.)
  • 2. Ensure passengers are seated and secured (seatbelts fastened if available) before moving the vehicle.
  • 3. Ensure that members are supervised at all times while in transit. Greet them and manage their behavior during the transport.
  • 4. Report and document all incidents and accidents as soon as they occur by filling out the proper paperwork and submitting it to your direct supervisor.
  • 5. Assist children with getting on and off the vehicle as needed.
  • 6. Learn which members take their route and account for each child as they board and depart the vehicle.
  • 7. Remind members of safety rules when sitting in their seats and exiting the vehicle.
  • 8. No texting or phone use while vehicle is moving or while stopped at intersections.
  • 9. Obey all Indiana Department of Motor Vehicles regulations and traffic laws.
Vehicle Maintenance and Safety:
  • 10. Perform inspections of the vehicle before and after each route to ensure the vehicle is safe to drive before moving.
  • 11. Ensure the window glass is clear and the tires have air before driving.
  • 12. Report and document any incidents and/or accidents as soon as they occur by filling out the proper paperwork and submitting it to your Direct Supervisor.
  • 13. Communicate to management, in a timely way, all concerns regarding the safety of the vehicle.
  • 14. Ensure that the vehicle is clean inside and outside and that all glass has clear visibility for safety.
  • 15. As required; keep the vehicle clean inside and outside, make sure it is fueled, and record mileage as appropriate.
  • 16. Inspect the lights, brakes, alarms and seats.
  • 17. Pick up trash, wipe down the seats, and perform other light maintenance at the end of the day.
General Responsibilities:
  • 18. You may be required to participate in and complete a recognized defensive driving course.
  • 19. Keep track of and secure all Club equipment and supplies being transported in the vehicle.
  • 20. You must not text in the vehicle while it is moving or stopped at a traffic light or stop sign.
  • 21. You must not operate any BGCNI vehicle if under the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs or any other mind‑altering substances including prescription medicine.
  • 22. Attend safety meetings as required.
Requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • 1. At least 18 years of age.
  • 2. High school diploma or GED.
  • 3. Ability to perform high school level arithmetic calculations and reading comprehension.
  • 4. Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • 5. A valid Indiana driver's license.
  • 6. Reliable transportation to and from work, to program locations, and for activities such as meetings, classes, and workshops in and out of the area.
  • 7. Pass a criminal records background check and a 10-panel drug screen.
  • 8. Maintain current 1st Aid and CPR certification.
  • 9. Maintain emotional self‑control when under personal stress.
  • 10. Accurately assess situations, solve problems, work effectively under stress, within deadlines, and in emergency situations.
  • 11. Understand and carry out instructions and procedures with minimal supervision.
  • 12. Communicate effectively orally and in writing using correct English.
  • 13. Clean driving record with no at‑fault accidents within the last five years
