Job summary

Saco School Department is seeking a Van Driver/Aide to safely transport and supervise students during the 2026-2027 school year. The role emphasizes student safety and positive interactions, with the driver assisting students boarding and exiting the vehicle.

This 30-hour-per-week position requires a valid Maine driver’s license, a clean driving record, and Maine fingerprinting certification. You will support students with mobility needs and follow district procedures.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Maine Department of Education fingerprinting certification required.
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
  • Ability to maintain positive student interactions at all times.
  • Ability to assist students with physical, behavioral, and mobility needs.

  • Perform pre-trip inspections and maintain vehicle cleanliness.

Overview

Saco School Department is seeking a Van Driver/Aide to safely transport and supervise students. The successful candidate will be committed to student safety, maintain positive interactions with students, and provide support to meet individual student needs during transportation.

Responsibilities
  • Safely operate a school van in accordance with all federal, state, and district regulations.
  • Transport students to and from school and on school-sponsored activities and field trips.
  • Supervise students during transportation and maintain appropriate student conduct.
  • Assist students in boarding and exiting the vehicle safely and in an orderly manner.
  • Ensure all students are properly secured in seat belts and/or wheelchairs at all times.
  • Provide one-on-one support to students as needed based on individual requirements.
  • Conduct required pre-trip inspections and maintain the cleanliness and safe operation of the vehicle.
  • Ensure communication devices are operational before each trip.
  • Maintain required records and promptly report accidents, mechanical issues, and discipline concerns.
  • Assist in emergency situations and follow district emergency procedures.
  • Attend required trainings, including Safety-Care or equivalent training provided by the district.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and school personnel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Working Conditions
  • School-year position.
  • 30 hours per week.
  • Work is performed in a school transportation environment with travel to school buildings and activity locations.
  • Must be able to physically assist students and move throughout the vehicle as necessary.
