Job summary

Saco School Department is seeking a Van Driver/Aide to safely transport and supervise students for the 2026-2027 school year. The role emphasizes student safety, positive interactions with students, and providing support to meet individual needs during transportation.

Responsibilities include operating a school van, supervising students, and ensuring proper safety measures are followed. A valid Maine fingerprinting certification and a clean driving record are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Valid fingerprinting certification from Maine Department of Education.
• Valid drivers license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to maintain positive student interactions at all times.
• Ability to assist students with physical, behavioral, and mobility needs safely.
• Strong communication skills and a commitment to student safety.
• Ability to work effectively with students, families, and staff.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate a school van in accordance with all regulations.
• Transport students to/from school and field trips.
• Supervise students during transportation and maintain conduct.
• Assist students in boarding/exiting the vehicle safely.
• Ensure all students are secured with seat belts and/or wheelchairs.
• Provide one-on-one support as needed.
• Perform pre-trip inspections and keep the vehicle clean and safe.
• Check communication devices before each trip.
• Maintain records and report incidents promptly.
• Assist in emergencies following district procedures.
• Attend trainings such as Safety-Care.
• Communicate with students, families, and school staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
