Job summary

The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit is seeking a Van Driver to provide safe transportation for students on routes across Montgomery County, PA. The role supports the Office of Business Services and requires a high school diploma and a PA driver's license.

Part-time or full-time positions available with schedules Monday–Friday; starting hourly rate $24.04. Candidates must have a clean MVR, knowledge of safety regulations, and willingness to comply with policy and complete required training.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid PA Drivers' License.
  • Three (3) years of professional driving experience and a clean MVR.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations.
  • Able to operate a van and drive all posted routes, as well as perform all physical duties and responsibilities.
  • Complies with MCIU drug and alcohol policy and random drug-testing program.
  • Original certificates of clearance from the State Police, Child Abuse Registry, and PDE FBI.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a school van in a safe and efficient manner and in compliance with all Federal and State DOT regulations.
  • Follow safety regulations and traffic laws.
  • Maintain student order and discipline in accordance with MCIU guidelines and policies.
  • Maps out the most efficient routes for each student using GPS.
  • Perform all pre and post trip vehicle inspections.
  • Follow routes as directed by Program Administrator – Operations.
  • Maintain route log and complete monthly mileage logs.
  • Complete transportation access logs.
  • Communicate with student's parent/guardian about assigned route.
  • Keep van clean and fueled.
  • Communicate repair needs to transportation office when needed.
  • Assist children in and out of the van and their securements, proper utilization of equipment (e.g. car seats, etc.).
  • Maintain professional interactions with all stakeholders.
  • Reports all accidents and completes required reports.
  • Attends required training as assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Immediately notifies Supervisor of any traffic violations incurred while employed.
  • Clerical tasks including data entry, processing and filing paperwork, updating reports.
  • Present a positive image of the Intermediate Unit, its programs and services.

  • Clerical tasks including, but not limited to, data entry, processing and filing paperwork, preparing documents, and updating reports. Coordinate and manage routes as needed.
  • Present a positive image of the Intermediate Unit, its programs and services.
  • Provide additional student and/or classroom support as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Program Administrator.

Location:

The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit is located at 2 West Lafayette Street, Norristown, PA 19401. This position requires travel to locations throughout Montgomery County, PA.

Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday, 194 days/year, Part-Time or Full-Time

Part-time schedule: 4-6 hours/day (morning, mid-day, and afternoon routes)

Full-time schedule: 7.5 hours/day (full-time Van Drivers may be required to spend a portion of their day in a classroom, supporting our student facing programs)

Hourly Rate:

Starting at $24.04/hour
