Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a Valvetrain Component Design Engineer in the Large Power Systems Division. You will lead a global team to design valvetrain components for diesel and natural gas engines, collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, and suppliers worldwide.

You will drive NPIs, perform FMEAs, and ensure design deliverables meet program requirements while mentoring team members and expanding your professional network. Location: Lafayette, IN or Mossville, IL.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum OR Relevant Experience.
• Analytical thinking with root-cause problem solving and structured approach.
• Effective communications across teams and functions to convey technical information clearly.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines.
• Technical excellence with strong engineering fundamentals.
• CAD & Engineering tools proficiency for design, analysis, and visualization.
• Product design and development capabilities from concept to production.
• Experience with valvetrain components or similar mechanical systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead a Global team in the design of Valvetrain components (valves, seats, guides, rotators, rocker arms, etc.).
• Design and promote new components and sub processes.
• Evaluate design, reliability, durability, validation cost and program requirements.
• Apply NPI processes, conduct FMEAs, formulate validation plans, complete validation activities.
• Evaluate new products, processes, or systems including supplier changes.
• Complete projects on time and at cost for NTI, NPI, CPI and NSI programs.
• Communicate results to customers, suppliers, team members and other units.
• Lead supplier collaboration and CPPD activities.
