Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a Design Engineer for Drivetrain Components in Lafayette, IN or Mossville, IL. You will lead a global team designing valvetrain components for diesel and natural gas engines, working through NPI and CPPD processes and coordinating with suppliers and cross-functional partners.

The role emphasizes analytical thinking, cross-team communication, and the ability to manage multiple high-priority projects with a focus on technical excellence and manufacturability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering required.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork capabilities.
• Experience with APQP, CPPD, FMEAs and design release processes.
• Proven ability to lead multi-functional teams on complex projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead a global team in designing valvetrain components (valves, seats, guides, rocker arms, pushrods).
• Design and promote new components and sub-processes.
• Evaluate design quality, cost, reliability, and validation plans.
• Apply NPI processes, conduct FMEAs, and oversee validation activities.
• Coordinate with suppliers and customers to meet program requirements.
• Communicate results across teams and leadership.
