Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a Valvetrain Component Design Engineer in Lafayette, IN or Mossville, IL. You will lead a global team to design complex valvetrain components for diesel and gasoline engines, guiding projects from concept through validation.

You will contribute to advanced engine programs, mentor teammates, and collaborate with manufacturing, purchasing and suppliers to release high quality components. This role emphasizes technical excellence and cross-functional leadership.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Experience with valvetrain components or heavy-duty engines is a plus.

Responsibilities

Lead a global team in designing valvetrain components (valves, seats, guides, etc.).
Design and promote new components and sub-processes.
Evaluate design against reliability, durability, and cost targets.
Apply NPI processes to conduct FMEAs, set validation plans and complete validation activities.
Evaluate new products, processes, or systems including supplier changes.
Deliver projects on time and within cost targets for NTI, NPI, CPI and NSI programs.
Communicate results to customers, suppliers, team members and other units.
Lead supplier collaboration and CPPD activities.
