Job summary

The City of Charlotte is seeking a team leader to oversee maintenance activities for Transmission, Distribution, and Water Treatment, focusing on valve repair, valve maintenance, and coordinating valve exercises.

This role provides technical knowledge of valves and air releases, collaborates with instrumentation and plant personnel, orders materials, troubleshoots complex equipment, and handles budget, safety training, and work order systems.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED from an accredited school.
• Seven (7) years of related work experience maintaining wastewater equipment including one (1) year of supervisory related experience.
• OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant work/industry/military/job specific experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties.

Responsibilities

• Oversees daily maintenance work activities, including predictive, preventative, and corrective maintenance.
• Coordinates with Engineering, Field Operations, and Water Treatment Operations staff and maintenance manager on maintenance related activities.
• Directs maintenance staff by generating, scheduling, and tracking work orders using the computerized maintenance management system and filed generated issues.
• Assists staff with maintenance activities including prioritizing work, troubleshooting, and making repairs.
• Provides oversight of mechanical staff. This includes assigning work, evaluating performance, participating in staffing decisions related to hiring, firing and promotional opportunities, providing mentoring and assisting with career development.
• Approves daily time records for payroll.
• Ensures adequate materials and parts are available by preparing scopes of work, requests for proposals, and purchase orders.
• Responds to emergency situations and coordinates staff and/or contractors to assist in resolution and making repairs.
• Participates in system and plant upgrades and expansion by working with staff to identify equipment needs, sharing expertise of equipment based on maintenance histories, evaluating submittals, monitoring and inspecting work of outside contractors and ensuring maintenance staff is trained on new equipment.
• Takes a lead role in safety by participating on safety teams; ensuring safety rules are followed; monitoring confined space permits; ensuring trenching/shoring guidelines are followed; and providing training specific to the hazardous aspects of the working environment at the treatment plants and Transmission/Distribution Systems.
• Performs other related job duties as assigned.
