Job summary

NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene seeks a City Research Scientist to coordinate validation and verification of new assays in the Public Health Laboratory. You will lead cross-unit projects, review literature, and support rapid response to infectious disease threats, including emergency testing and LRN-B capacity.

The role requires advanced degrees (PhD/masters) in physical/biological/environmental sciences or public health, plus supervisory or research experience.

Qualifications

• CV/qualifications include PhD/CQ and public health lab leadership requirements.
• Advanced degrees in relevant sciences and supervisory experience.
• Experience with validation/verification of clinical assays and rapid response to public health threats.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate validations/verification for new assays with NYC PHL and other units.
• Assist coordination of research efforts with agencies/institutions (e.g., CDC).
• Evaluate literature for implementation of new assays; publish findings.
• Contribute to rapid lab response to biological threats and maintain LRN-B capacity.
• Support emergency testing coordination during surge events.
