Job summary

NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is seeking a City Research Scientist to lead program design, evaluation, and coordination for HIV and viral hepatitis initiatives in NYC.

The role involves advancing epidemiology work, managing research projects, coordinating with federal funders, and supporting grant activities within a dynamic public health system. Strong analytical and collaboration skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications include a master's degree in a relevant field or higher with specialization in physical, biological, environmental or social science and public health.
• Higher-level experience may be substituted for education according to NYC rules; a doctorate plus supervisory or research experience is required for senior levels.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to program design and development, including literature reviews, cost analyses, and procurement approaches.
• Collaborate on EHE program evaluation and monitoring with internal teams.
• Support communications with federal funders and external technical assistance organizations.
• Coordinate to implement virtual and in-person community engagement activities.
• Support community partnerships and engagement in planning meetings and research efforts.
• Develop and manage EHE research/evaluation projects.
• Assist with grant writing and submission activities.
• Disseminate findings through reports, presentations, and papers for publication.
• Participate in funder program compliance and reporting activities.
• Support local public health response to emergencies as needed.
