Job summary

New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC Health Department) seeks a City Research Scientist to coordinate validations and verifications for new assays at the NYC Public Health Laboratory, and to support rapid laboratory responses to biological threats.

The role requires a PhD in biological sciences or related field with leadership in a public health laboratory setting. Appointment includes opportunities to collaborate with Wadsworth Center and CDC and ensure LRN-B capacity.

Qualifications

• Possess (or eligibility for) a Clinical Laboratory Director Certificate of Qualification (CQ) issued by NYSED.
• PhD in biological sciences/microbiology/virology with extensive lab operations experience.
• Knowledge of generally accepted standards of laboratory performance.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate validations/verification of new assays with NYC PHL and other sections.
• Assist in coordinating agency research with external projects (e.g., Wadsworth Center, CDC).
• Study literature for new assay implementation and write findings for publication.
