Job summary

Bay Area Retina Associates is seeking a Valeda Technician to support provider-directed Valeda photo biomodulation treatments and ophthalmic testing. You will assist with patient preparation, scheduling, documentation, and daily clinic flow, coordinating with physicians and staff to ensure safe, efficient visits.

The role involves performing visual acuity testing and imaging, maintaining equipment, and supporting front desk operations.

Qualifications

• Excellent patient relations.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Excellent communication.
• One year of past medical clinic experience preferred but not required.
• Minimum high school diploma. College degree or continuing education courses desirable.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and schedule Valeda treatment visits.
• Confirm treatment orders, patient eligibility, insurance authorizations, and financial clearance before appointments.
• Prepare patient charts, prior imaging, clinical documentation, and required testing for Valeda visits.
• Identify patients using two identifiers and explain visit workflow and treatment expectations.
• Obtain and update patient history, medications, and pertinent information in the EMR.
• Perform visual acuity testing, OCT imaging, and other ophthalmic testing; dilate eyes when ordered.
• Prepare the Valeda treatment area and equipment; complete startup checks and logs.
• Assist with or administer Valeda treatments as directed by policy and training.
• Confirm treatment parameters and follow device safety and infection-control procedures.
• Monitor patient comfort; report symptoms or interruptions to leadership.
• Document treatment dates and observations in the EMR; coordinate ongoing treatment series and follow-ups.
• Communicate with physicians, Practice Leads, technicians, and preauthorization teams to support continuity of care.
• Open/close rooms, disinfect equipment, restock supplies, and report issues.
• Support patient check-in/check-out, scheduling, insurance verification, and copay collection as assigned.
• Maintain HIPAA and OSHA compliance and follow emergency protocols.
