Job summary

Rocky Mount Police Department offers a VA approved Apprenticeship Program for veterans eligible for GI Bill benefits. The role includes training through Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) and advancement to a $60,000 annual salary after probationary NC LE certification is awarded.

Candidates must be at least 20, have a high school diploma or GED, no felonies in the last 5 years, and a valid NC driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Must attend Basic Law Enforcement Training (B.L.E.T.) and obtain a probationary certificate.
• Participate in educational training and pass weekly tests; no deficiencies.
• Pass the Police Officers Physical Ability Test (POPAT).
• Gains knowledge in investigation of crimes and accidents.
• Learn to prepare incident, accident, and arrest reports.
• Learn to process crime scenes and prepare reports for court.
• Must be at least 20 years old by the state exam.
• No felony convictions; no serious misdemeanors in the last 5 years; no DV; no DUI/DWI in last 5 years.
• Must have valid NC driver's license or ability to obtain one.
• Meet NC Training and Standards Commission requirements.

Responsibilities

• Attends and completes Basic Law Enforcement Training (B.L.E.T.) and obtains a probationary certificate.
• Gains knowledge in preparing incident, accident, and arrest reports.
• Gains knowledge in processing crime scenes and investigations.
• Develops skills to prepare cases and testify in court.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• reads text at 10th grade level and performs basic math.
