Job summary

Stanley Black & Decker invites aspiring UX/UI designers to join our design team as an intern in Valley City, OH. You will contribute to user experiences for physical product interfaces across our trusted brands, working with experienced designers, engineers, and cross-functional partners throughout the product development process.

You will explore human-machine interfaces, displays, and controls, applying UX/UI principles beyond digital screens.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in UX/UI Design or related field.
• Coursework or project experience in UX design, interaction design, or product design.
• Familiarity with design and prototyping tools such as Figma or Adobe CC.
• Ability to create and communicate basic wireframes, flows, prototypes, and interface concepts.
• Strong visual, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
• A portfolio demonstrating design thinking, problem-solving, and process is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support UX/UI design activities for product interfaces (HMI, displays, and controls).
• Assist with user research, competitive analysis, and synthesis of findings.
• Create wireframes, user flows, interface concepts, prototypes, and visual design explorations.
• Translate complex user, technical, and business requirements into clear, intuitive experiences.
• Participate in design reviews and communicate design rationale to designers, engineers, product managers, and stakeholders.
• Iterate on concepts based on feedback, usability insights, and constraints.
• Support design standards, specifications, and documentation to enable consistency across experiences.
• Collaborate with industrial design, engineering, product management, and cross-functional teams.
• Prepare presentations and communications to explain design concepts and decisions.
