Job summary

Schuff Steel is seeking a Utility Yardman to move steel and materials throughout the plant and yard, ensuring timely production support with crane, rigging, and forklift capabilities.

The role requires safe operation of equipment, adherence to PPE, and a strong focus on keeping the yard organized, contributing to efficient fabrication and on-time project delivery.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required with two years forklift operation experience (30,000 lbs+).
• Experience with cranes, rigging, and forklifts essential.
• Ability to read safety rules, operating instructions and manuals.

Responsibilities

• Move steel out of the shop on a timely basis to avoid production delays.
• Load and unload trucks and trailers.
• Load and unload paint racks and sandblasting racks.
• Band steel to pallets and bundles using the banding machine.
• Operate forklifts in a safe manner.
• Maintain and operate equipment as required.
• Transport material by forklift as needed.
• Keep work area organized and clean.
• Adhere to safety rules and PPE requirements.

Core Responsibilities

• Move steel out of the shop on a timely basis so as not to hinder the production of fabricated steel.
• Load and unload trucks and trailers.

Education/Training - Work Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED), and two years of experience operating 30,000 lbs. forklifts or bigger.

Specialized Knowledge – Certificates & Licenses

• Equipment Knowledge & Skills – may include but not limited to cranes, rigging, and forklifts.
• Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure.
• Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
