Job summary

Schuff Steel in Lindon, UT seeks a Production Helper to support fabrication of structural metal products on commercial, bridge and industrial projects. You will assist with lifting, positioning, cleaning, and prepping parts, under supervision.

The role emphasizes safety, PPE, and teamwork; a high school diploma or GED and about a year of related experience is preferred, with training on cranes, forklifts, and grinders.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 12 months of related fabrication or production experience.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules and maintenance instructions.
• Basic math and measurement skills.

Responsibilities

• Lifts and positions workpieces for fitting and welding.
• Loads, stacks, and transports stock and tools.
• Cleans and prepares metal for fabrication, welding, painting, or shipping.
• Maintains clean work areas and equipment.
• Adheres to safety rules and PPE requirements.
• Assist teammates as needed.
• Pass the tacking test on Flat, Horizontal, Vertical, Overhead.
• Perform other routine duties.

Core Responsibilities

• Lifts, positions, and removes workpieces from machines to assist in fitting and welding.
• Loads, stacks, and transports stock, tools, dies, and work in process by hand or truck.
• Cleans and scrapes metal preparatory to fabricating, welding, painting, or shipping.
• Picks up and trucks scrap from work areas.
• Cleans work area, machines, tools, and equipment.
• Perform other routine duties.
• Assist fellow employees as directed.
• Pass the tacking test on the following positions: Flat, Horizontal, Vertical and Overhead.
• Must adhere to and follow all safety rules and PPE requirements

Education/Training - Work Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED), and/or 12 months experience

Specialized Knowledge – Certificates & Licenses

• Equipment Knowledge & Skills – Equipment generally used includes but is not limited to overhead cranes, forklifts and hand grinders.
• Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure.
• Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
