The City of Houston is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician for the Houston Drinking Water Operations/Systems Maintenance team. The role involves performing maintenance tasks on the water distribution system, operating valves, isolating lines, and flushing hydrants to address water quality issues.
Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED and at least 6 months of general maintenance experience. A Texas driver's license is required; veteran preference applies.

This is a Department of Public Works and Engineering Emergency Management Position at the Tier I Level.
This position routinely requires lifting moderately heavy items (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis. There are routine discomforts from exposure to moderate heat, cold, moisture/wetness and unpleasant air conditions.
Requires a high school diploma, GED, or the ability to read, write, add, subtract, and follow oral and/or basic written instructions at a level necessary for successful job performance supplemented by specialized courses or training in the operation of the equipment/instruments.
Six (6) months of general maintenance/work experience are required.
Requires a valid Texas Driver License and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**

Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
