Job summary

City of Peoria is seeking a motivated Utility System Operator II to operate and maintain the wastewater collection system, including lift stations and miles of sewer lines.

The ideal candidate will learn, take initiative, work well with others, and provide reliable service to the community. Responsibilities include inspections, hydro-cleaning, CCTV, pump maintenance, and emergency response, with opportunities to grow within the department.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalency.
• 1 year of previous experience in same or similar position.
• Valid AZ Class A CDL with Tanker and HazMat endorsements within 6 months of hire.
• ADEQ Certification: Grade I Wastewater Collection upon hire; Grade II within one year.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain lift stations and sewer collection system.
• Perform sewer system inspections and hydro-cleaning.
• Conduct CCTV inspections and manhole inspections.
• Perform pump maintenance and respond to emergencies.
• Troubleshoot wastewater collection system issues and repair as needed.
• Assist with operating parameters and recordkeeping.
• Coordinate with team members to ensure reliable service to the community.
• Support ongoing development of skills and knowledge in wastewater operations.

Minimum Requirements:

Education:

• High school graduation or equivalency.

Experience:

• 1 year of previous experience required in the same or similar previous positions.

Physical Demands:

• A main requirement of the job is physical labor.

Licenses and Certifications:

• Valid Arizona Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker and HazMat endorsements within 6 months of hire.
• One (1) Grade I Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Certification in Wastewater Collection upon hire. Must obtain Grade II ADEQ Certification in the Wastewater Collection within one year of hire.

Wastewater Collection is looking for a motivated and dependable Utility System Operator II to join our team. This position is an opportunity for an operator who takes pride in their work, wants to continue developing their skills, and is interested in learning all aspects of wastewater collection operations.

The ideal candidate will be someone who is willing to learn, takes initiative, works well with others, and is committed to providing reliable service to the community. The Utility System Operator II will be responsible for a variety of duties including lift station operations and maintenance, sewer system inspections, hydro-cleaning, CCTV inspections, manhole inspections, pump maintenance, emergency response, and troubleshooting of wastewater collection system issues.

Wastewater Collection operates and maintains a large and growing wastewater collection system, including numerous lift stations and miles of sewer infrastructure. As the City continues to grow, additional lift stations and infrastructure will be added to the system, creating additional responsibilities and opportunities for the division.

We are looking for an operator who wants to be more than just an employee—someone who wants to become a valuable member of the team, develop their knowledge and abilities, and take on additional responsibilities as they gain experience. The successful candidate will have opportunities to work alongside experienced operators and gain hands‑on experience with the equipment, technology, and processes used to maintain the City's wastewater collection system.
