Job summary

City of Red Oak is seeking a Utility Maintenance Worker to perform maintenance, repair and construction on public water and wastewater utilities. You will supervise crews, troubleshoot lines, locate pipes, and ensure compliance with regulations.

The role requires five years of related experience, Texas licenses, and the ability to work overtime and on-call shifts. High school diploma or GED is required, and lifting and physical duties are substantial.

Qualifications

• Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in utility construction, maintenance and repair relating to water and wastewater.
• Class II Wastewater Collection and Class C Water Certification from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
• Class III Wastewater Collections License required within six months of employment.
• Knowledge of procedures and techniques used in cleaning, maintenance and repair of utilities.
• Knowledge of equipment and techniques used in minor construction, maintenance and repair tasks.
• Must have good communication skills; requires a calm demeanor in responding to customer questions/and or complaints, and dealing with the general public.

Responsibilities

• Participates in the manual labor associated with the operation, maintenance, repair and construction of the water system, sanitary sewer system, and storm drainage system.
• Ensure that all work performed by work crews is completed in compliance with local, state, and federal requirements, standards, ordinances, and procedures.
• Troubleshoot issues related to water and sewer lines.
• Install water and sewer taps.
• Locate water and sewer lines.
• Clear sewer mainline stoppages.
• May read water meters and troubleshoot and/or replace if necessary.
• Perform visual inspections of businesses and residences for water and sewer leaks.
• Assist with the maintenance of City facilities.
• Maintains effective communications with the Utility Supervisor.
• Perform as crew leader under the direction of the Utility Supervisor.
• Log daily work order reports.
• Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and related tools as required.
• Perform traffic control as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Works overtime as required to complete assigned tasks.
• Participates in on-call rotation schedule as required to perform the duties of the position.
• Abides by all policies, procedures, rules, etc. associated with the departmental Safety Program.
