Job summary

The City of Red Oak is seeking a Stormwater Maintenance Worker to join the public works crew. You will perform semi-skilled tasks under supervision to build, repair, and maintain municipal stormwater systems and related infrastructure.

Responsibilities include repairing pavement, maintaining storm drains, cleaning drainage ditches, and supporting traffic markings and road clearance. On-the-job training is provided for an entry-level candidate with a strong safety mindset.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • On-the-job training provided; entry level.
  • Ability to safely operate tools and equipment listed above.
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License with clean driving record.
  • NIMS Training within 3 months of hire.
  • Ability to obtain Class B CDL within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Repair concrete and/or asphalt pavement.
  • Maintain and repair storm-drain inlets and flumes.
  • Inspect, maintain, clean, and repair stormwater pipes and drainage ditches.
  • Trash and debris cleanup on streets and right-of-ways.
  • Barricade maintenance and traffic markings support.
  • Tree trimming, weed eating, mowing.
  • Operate a variety of Public Works equipment.
  • Assist in road clearance and street department projects.
  • Protect confidential information and represent the City professionally.

Job description

The Stormwater Maintenance Worker performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks as a member of a stormwater drainage maintenance and repair crew, under the general direction of the Public Works Streets and Drainage Supervisor. This individual safely performs manual labor tasks and operates tools and equipment to build, repair and maintain municipal stormwater systems.

  1. Represents the City of Red Oak in a professional, appropriate manner at all times
  2. Performs various tasks such as:
    • Repairing concrete and/or asphalt pavement
    • maintenance and repair of storm-drain inlets and flumes
    • inspect, maintain, clean, and repair stormwater pipes and drainage ditches
    • trash & debris clean-up on streets and right-of-ways
    • barricade maintenance
    • tree trimming
    • ice & flood control
    • excavating by use of hand tools
    • weed eating
    • mowing
  3. Operates a variety of Public Works equipment relative to work assignments, including:
    • Jackhammers
    • Spray paint guns
    • Rollers
    • Front-end loaders
    • Tamper
    • Chainsaws
    • Weed eaters & mowers
    • Trucks
  4. Assists in painting or installing buttons, crosswalks, and other traffic markings
  5. Assists in the clearing of roadways
  6. Assists in street department projects
  7. Supports the relationship between the City and the public through courteous and cooperative interactions
  8. Performs all job duties, tasks, and activities according to work instructions, defined procedures, and policies
  9. Performs all work activities in a safe manner and follows all safety rules
  10. Performs related duties as assigned or required by supervisor
  11. Identifies, records and reports problems that interfere with completion of job duties, and initiates, recommends, or provides solutions as appropriate
  12. Keeps work areas clean and orderly
  13. Exemplifies a cooperative attitude to work effectively with others
  14. Protects classified, confidential, and sensitive information
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Entry level position, previous experience as a laborer or in construction is preferred but not required. On the job training will be provided.
  • Ability to safely operate tools and equipment listed above
CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License with clear driving record
  • NIMS Training obtained within 3 months of hire
  • Ability to obtain Class B Commercial Driver’s permit within 6 months, and Class B Commercial Driver’s License within 1 year of hire
