Job summary

The Town of Gilbert is seeking a reliable Utility Locator for our Water team. This hands-on outdoor role identifies and marks underground utilities before digging, reading blueprints and maps, and coordinating with contractors to prevent damage to Gilbert’s infrastructure.

Reporting to the Water Utility Supervisor, the position emphasizes safety, quality workmanship, and teamwork. Requires a high school diploma, 3 years of field experience, and valid AZ driver’s license; ADEQ Grade I within one

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience interpreting project plans, blueprints, plant maps, or as-builts.
• Valid Arizona driver’s license and safety-focused mindset.

Responsibilities

• Locate Gilbert-owned underground utilities in the field.
• Assist customers to resolve underground conflicts and issues.
• Identify GIS/plans inconsistencies and support plan review.
• Conduct damaged utility reports and maintain records.
• Perform and enforce Arizona Revised Statutes laws relevant to utilities.
• Utilize GPS equipment for precise locating and marking.
• Work in confined spaces when required.
