Job summary

Arlington County is offering a one-year, full-time Utility Engineering Intern internship in the Department of Environmental Services. The program focuses on managing water, sewer, and stormwater assets, with hands-on field work and data analysis.

Interns will gain experience with ArcGIS Pro, Cartegraph, Excel, Power BI, and other tools while under mentorship from senior staff. Core hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., in-office with occasional field duties.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil/Environmental/CS/Engineering or related field is required.
• Recent graduate status with no substantial professional experience is desired.
• Strong proficiency in data analysis and asset management is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with field inspections of water, sewer, and stormwater infrastructure.
• Document conditions and update asset management data.
• Analyze data, generate reports, and create maps using GIS/BI tools.
• Prepare as-built documentation and maintain engineering records.
• Support SCADA data tracking and project documentation.
