Job summary

The Village of Lemont is hiring a Utility Billing & Customer Service Specialist to deliver accurate water and sewer billing services and support residents in a professional manner. You will work closely with Finance and Public Works to ensure accurate accounts and timely notices.

You will process monthly bills, review readings, and coordinate with Public Works on meter work, while supervising a part-time Meter Reader and maintaining comprehensive records.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Strong computer skills with Excel, Word and Outlook.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations and precise data entry.
• Strong organizational, communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to handle challenging customer situations professionally.
• Experience with utility billing or municipal government is a plus.
• Experience with Tyler/New World software preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review meter readings, consumption data, adjustments and move-ins/out.
• Monitor delinquent accounts, issue notices, assist payment arrangements.
• Coordinate meter installs, reads, shut-offs with Public Works.

The Village of Lemont is seeking a detail-oriented, customer-focused professional to join our Finance Department as a Utility Billing & Customer Service Specialist. This position plays an important role in providing accurate and responsive utility billing services to our residents while working closely with the Village’s Finance and Public Works teams.

What You’ll Do

The Utility Billing Coordinator oversees the day-to-day administration of the Village’s water and sewer billing operations. Key responsibilities include:

• Process monthly water and sewer billing and maintain accurate customer accounts.
• Review meter readings, consumption data, account adjustments, move-ins/move-outs, and exception billing.
• Monitor delinquent accounts, issue required notices, and assist customers with payment arrangements.
• Coordinate meter installations, replacements, readings, shut-offs, turn-ons, and related work with Public Works.
• Supervise and coordinate the work of the Village’s part-time Meter Reader.
• Respond to resident questions and resolve utility billing and account concerns in a professional and helpful manner.
• Maintain accurate records and prepare reports related to utility accounts and billing activity.
• Provide support to other Finance Department functions as needed.
