Job summary

Kaiser Permanente in Washington, DC is recruiting a Registered Nurse experienced in urology to coordinate and monitor patient care in our urology clinic.

You will assist with minor procedures, collaborate with physicians and family members, educate patients, monitor therapies, and ensure safe administration of medications and catheter care.

Qualifications

• Two years of urology experience in inpatient or ambulatory settings, or completion of an Ambulatory Care RN Transition to Practice Residency in the last 12 months.
• Proficiency with computer software and documentation systems is required.
• Current, valid RN licenses in Maryland, Virginia and DC or compact license is required within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and monitor care in the/urology clinic.
• Set up and assist with minor surgical and invasive procedures including cystoscopies and biopsies.
• Educate patients and families on bladder, kidney and urinary tract disorders.
• Monitor IV therapy during diagnostic procedures and manage emergency equipment.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary care for prostate cancer clinics.

Job Summary:

To coordinate and monitor care of patients in the urology clinic.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Sets-up, performs, and/or assists with minor surgical and invasive procedures as appropriate, including cystoscopies, TRUS, vasectomies, MRI fusion biopsies, bladder Botox injections and biopsies.


• Collaborate closely with the physician, clinical assistants, family members and patient to ensure medications, lifestyle changes, and therapy services are suitable.


• Be familiar with signs and symptoms of infection and be comfortable dressing wounds and assessing long-term catheters.


• Report any complications or issues to the physician.


• Perform extensive patient and family education regarding a variety of bladder, kidney, and other urinary tract disorders.


• Performs urodynamics, uroflows, and systometrograms.


• Initiates and monitors IV therapy to therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.


• Provides ongoing assurance of functional emergency equipment and adequate emergency drug supplies.


• Maintains competencies in scope and instrument reprocessing and ensures daily functioning/integrity of scopes.


• Coordinates, implements, and evaluates patient teaching plans for areas or urologic disease management and other areas as designated.


• Administer intravesical chemotherapy for prostate cancer and monitor patient post Chemotherapy instillation.


• Administer BCG, dimethyl sulfoxide, and other medications via indwelling bladder catheter. Administers all oral and injecting medications in the assigned clinical area.


• Perform Stent removal, Lupron administration, Percutaneous Tibial Nerve Stimulation (PTNS), and Suprapubic Catheter Change/Insertion.


• Coordinate all care for prostate cancer clinic with multidisciplinary team


• Performs other related duties as directed.

Basic Qualifications:

• Minimum two (2) years of urology experience in an inpatient or ambulatory setting required OR completion of an Ambulatory Care RN Transition to Practice Residency Program, within the past 12 months is required.

• This job requires credentials from multiple states. Credentials from the primary work state are required at hire. Additional Credentials from the secondary work state(s) are required post hire.

• Registered Nurse License (Maryland) within 6 months of hire AND Registered Nurse License (Virginia) within 6 months of hire

• Compact License: Registered Nurse within 6 months of hire

• Registered Nurse License (District of Columbia) within 6 months of hire

• Basic Life Support

Additional Requirements:

• Proficiency in the use of applicable computer software required.


• Must possess a solid knowledge of the male and female urinary tract and reproductive systems, pathphysiology, and treatments.


• Excellent bedside manners and sensitive.


• Strong computer and documentation skills.


• Experience in assisting with scope and minor surgical procedures required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• BSN preferred.


• Certified Urologic Registered Nurse preferred.
