Job summary

UrgentVet in Midlothian, VA, is seeking a Full-Time Shift Lead to provide outstanding patient care, team leadership, and client service in a fast-paced urgent care clinic.

The Shift Lead performs duties of Senior Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Technician, coordinates paraprofessional staff, and partners with the Practice Manager and Lead DVM to ensure clear communication and efficient operations. This on-site role requires lifting up to 40 lbs and flexibility for evenings/weekends.

Qualifications

• Two years of healthcare/veterinary/service experience required.
• Medical terminology training required.
• Associates degree or veterinary technician certification/licensure preferred.
• Six months of management experience strongly preferred.
• Animal handling experience including patient restraint, sample collection, and monitoring.
• Clinical skills including phlebotomy, catheter placement, laboratory analysis, and drug calculation.

Responsibilities

• Provide senior-level leadership across all shifts to support staff and patients.
• Coordinate paraprofessional staff and ensure productive, efficient care.
• Partner with the Practice Manager and Lead DVM for communication with clients and leadership.
• Assign cases to veterinary assistants and resolve bottlenecks in operations.
• Assist with client resolution decisions and invoice adjustments.
• Train and mentor new paraprofessional staff.
• Address equipment issues and assist in inventory management.
• Perform on-site duties as required; lift up to 40 lbs; support hospital operations.
