Job summary

American Family Care (AFC) Springfield clinic is hiring a Medical Assistant to blend clinical care, patient service, and front-desk duties. You will greet patients, collect vitals, perform venipuncture, verify insurance, and help ensure accurate billing while delivering compassionate care.

The role requires completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, active certification, BLS, and EMR proficiency (Experity preferred).

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Active national MA certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent) at hire.
• At least 1+ year of experience with insurance verification and patient registration required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or ability to obtain before starting).
• Urgent care or emergency room experience highly valued.
• EMR proficiency (Experity preferred); comfort with payer portals (e.g., Waystar).
• Proven venipuncture and specimen collection skills.

Responsibilities

• Greet and triage patients, collect vitals and histories, perform venipuncture and CLIA-waived point-of-care testing.
• Register patients, verify insurance eligibility, determine financial responsibility, collect co-pays, reconcile payment logs, and maintain EMR accuracy.
• Educate patients on clinical procedures and financial expectations, provide discharge instructions, and de-escalate concerns with empathy.
