Job summary

The City of Alexandria seeks a Labor Supervisor to oversee daily refuse collection routes with small packer trucks, guiding crews of Laborers and Equipment Operators to maintain sanitation and service standards across busy corridors.

You will plan routes, monitor operations, reassign crews during shortages, coordinate maintenance and emergencies, and report field metrics to support budgeting and resource allocation.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Three years experience as a laborer III or Equipment Operator, or equivalent.
• CDL with proper endorsement may be required within six months of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and dispatch daily routes for small packer trucks servicing public space trash and recycling containers in Alexandria.
• Monitor field operations and conduct route inspections to ensure timely servicing and adherence to standards.
• Manage route coverage during staffing shortages by reassigning crews or directly driving routes to maintain service levels.
• Coordinate maintenance, emergency responses, and special events with internal divisions and external contractors.
• Track daily service requests and container maintenance needs using fleet systems.
• Provide guidance on safe operation of rear load small packer trucks in urban corridors and safety protocols.
• Gather operational data and report metrics to support budget planning and resource allocation.
• Perform related duties as required.
